Manasseh Cutler letter to Benjamin Lincoln [manuscript], 1783 May 18.

Cutler discusses in detail the selection of articles for the first issue of the "Proceedings of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences," as well as the need to uphold the "literary character of this State abroad." He goes on to discuss agriculture, including a vegetable that cures cancer. Cutler ends his letter by reiterating the need for Lincoln's input on the first volume. Also included is a 3 pp. autographed copy of the articles defining the rules for establishing the "Proceedings of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences."
